Etisalat reaches 71 Gbps in 5G trial

UAE operator Etisalat said that its latest 5G live trial reached a global record of 71 Gbps. It is demonstrating 5G at this year's Gitex Technology Week. It expects to deploy 5G deployment in the UAE by 2020.

It exceeded the download speed of 70 Gbps on a "pre-commercial" 5G site, operating over e-band using 2 GHz of bandwidth as well as massive MIMO.  At Gitex, Etisalat is showcasing 5G applications for medicine such as robotic surgery, as well as 4K video and facial recognition.  Its UHD video and 4K virtual reality operate over the C-band (3.5 GHz). This will be in use in the near future for video calling and conferencing, augmented reality and CCTV on roads with high resolution cameras.

Etisalat to launch 5G fixed-wireless services

Etisalat deploys regional pre-commercial 5G

UAE operator Etisalat said it launched the first pre-commercial 5G network in specific locations within UAE, including Abu Dhabi (UAE capital) and Dubai. 5G services have been demonstrated using an advanced 5G based drone that is equipped with a 360-degree VR camera with 4K streaming experience in live environment achieving up to 5Gbps in downlink and 2Gbps in uplink with extremely low latency and massive IoT connections.

Ericsson says 28% of operators expect to deploy 5G in 2018

Ericsson said its 5G Readiness Survey 2017 shows that many operators have accelerated preparations for 5G and that trials are being carried out by 78 percent of respondents. It said 28 percent of the respondents expect to deploy 5G next year.

Ericsson, Etisalat exceed 24 Gbps in outdoor 5G trial
