Europe-Persia Express Gateway starts commercial service
The Europe-Persia Express Gateway (EPEG) cable network has begun commercial operations, Rostelecom said. It was built by a consortium formed by Rostelecom, Vodafone, Iranian telecommunications company TIC and Omantel. The initial capacity of the line is 540 Gbps. EPEG runs for around 10,000 kilometres, crossing Eastern Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran and the Gulf to reach Oman. The capacity is planned to be raised to 3.2 Tbps. Azerbaijan operator Delta Telecom also cooperated in deploying the line.
