The alliance between the European mobile operators, Orange, T-Mobile International, Vodafone and Telefonica Moviles, will launch a mobile phone-based payment system with the name "Simpay", according to Wolff Olins, a consultant for the group. This reports Dow Jones Business News. The Simpay brand will be easily identifiable and will show on websites, so the consumer knows services could be paid through the Simpay system. The system will allow low-priced items to be purchased by debiting from a mobile user's account, while higher-value purchases will be charged to credit and debit cards. The companies hope to be processing more than 1 billion transactions up to around 2009 via the new platform.
