Facebook Financial head Marcus to leave company at year-end

David Marcus, the head of Facebook Financial, announced he is leaving Meta at the end of this year, after seven years leading Facebook's expansion into financial services. Stephane Kasriel will take over as head of Novi, the new digital wallet and payments service started by the company in October.

A former PayPal president and founder of the mobile payments company Zong, Marcus first joined Facebook in 2014 as VP of messaging products. In recent years he took over management of Libra, Facebook's project to set up its own currency, and led the company's wider expansion into digital payments. Marcus said he was leaving to pursue new entrepreneurial endeavours. 

Kasriel was already VP of Product at Novi and will now take over bringing the new platform to a full launch.

Meta to end Novi wallet project in September

Meta will be ending its Novi pilot on 1 September, Bloomberg reported. Novi was set up as a money-transfer service using the company's own cryptocurrency digital wallet. Users are being advised to withdraw their funds. A company spokesperson said the company does plan to use Novi's technology in future products, such as in its metaverse project.

Zodra de app verdwijnt, hebben gebruikers niet langer inzage in hun transactiehistorie.

Facebook to abandon cryptocurrency venture, sell Diem assets - report

Meta (Facebook) is winding down its Diem digital currency project and is preparing to sell the associated technology, according to unnamed sources cited by the Wall Street Journal. The Diem venture, initially dubbed Libra, has attracted widespread regulatory concerns over money laundering, monetary stability and user privacy since it was launched in June 2019. Meta is now set to sell out to California-based Silvergate Capital Corp for around USD 200 million, said the sources.

Meta appoints Gifford as new VP EMEA

Meta announced the appointment of Angelika Gifford as its new Vice President in Europe, Middle East and Africa, taking over from Nicola Mendelsohn, who earlier this year became Vice President for the Global Business Group. Gifford joined Meta in January 2020, and has represented Meta to partners, policymakers, nonprofits and community organisations across 34 countries in Central Europe, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Benelux region as well as Eastern Europe and Russia.

Sam Chudnovsky, the head of Facebook Messenger since 2018, has announced his planned resignation from the company in the second quarter of 2022. Chudnovsky said he has no plans to retire yet but that he will taking "a break".

Facebook announced the start of a small pilot of its Novi payments services, starting in the US and Guatemala. The digital wallet allows users to send and receive money instantly, securely, and with no fees, the head of Facebook Financial, David Marcus announced.

Social media site, Facebook has announced the appointment of David Marcus, president of PayPal, as vice president of messaging products for Facebook. Marcus brings a solid track record in the technology industry to his new role, having launched his first startup at the age of 23. In 2011 he joined PayPal as vice president of mobile where he was responsible for leading PayPal's mobile payments business, before taking on the role of president in 2012.
