Facebook hires Dutch regulator to head public policy in Europe

Facebook has named Johan Keetelaar from Dutch regulator ACM as its new public policy director for Europe. Keetelaar is currently head of telecom, transport and post issues at the Consumer & Markets Authority, which is also the regulator in charge of competition and consumer protection in the Netherlands. The move to Facebook was reported by a number of Dutch papers, including De Telegraaf and Het Financieele Dagblad.

Keetelaar has worked 15 years at the regulator, including its telecoms predecessor Opta, and served since April 2013 as a director. He will start at Facebook in February and work from Brussels and Amsterdam.
