Facebook technology chief steps down

Facebook's technology chief Bret Taylor is leaving the social networking company later this summer with plans to assemble a start-up, the Wall Street Journal reports. A pair of Facebook executives under Taylor, Mike Vernal and Cory Ondrejka, will be taking over platform and mobile duties, respectively, the company said. Vernal joined Facebook in 2008 from Microsoft, leading the original Facebook Connect project, which lets Facebook users log in to third-party sites with their account. He also worked on platform efforts and the development of Open Graph, a platform that allows external websites and apps to access certain data about users to better target them. Ondrejka arrived at the company in 2010 through its acquisition of Walletin and previously worked at Linden Research on online virtual site Second Life.
