Fairphone adds 48MP camera and NFC to latest eco-friendly phone

Dutch smartphone manufacturer Fairphone has launched an updated version of last year’s Fairphone 3 handset, complete with NFC and a 48-megapixel camera. The new Fairphone 3+ sustainable and modular smartphone also includes a 16-megapixel selfie camera, a 5.7-inch FHD+ LCD screen with Gorilla Glass 5 protection, a Snapdragon 632 processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. It comes with Android 10 out of the box as well as a removable 3,040 mAh battery with Qualcomm QuickCharge support, a headphone jack and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The new model has over 40 percent post-consumer recycled plastics, compared to 9 percent on the Fairphone 3, and like its predecessor comes with a screwdriver for repairs and upgrades. Fairphone also committed to ensuring that existing Fairphone 3 users can update their phone with the new 48-megapixel and 16-megapixel sensors at a combined price of EUR 94.90 and install Android 10 from 07 September.

The Fairphone 3+ is already available to order on the company’s website at a price of EUR 469 ahead of its official release across Europe on 14 September.
