FCC awards licence to satellite IoT company Kineis

France-based satellite operator and connectivity provider Kineis has been authorised to open its future constellation services to the US market by the Federal Communications Commission. The new services will deliver connectivity for Internet of Things devices, powered by 25 small low-Earth orbit satellites. The constellation, to be launched in 2023 by Rocket Lab, complements Kineis' existing operations, already available in the US as well as globally.

This latest authorisation grants Kineis market access in the 399.9-400.05 MHz and 401-403 MHz uplink bands, and the 400.15-401 MHz downlink band. Alonside IoT connectivity, the constellation will be used to monitor maritime communication. The licence marks a major step towards a stronger presence in the US, said the company, with plans to support this expansion in early 2022 with a new subsidiary in Washington, DC.
