FCC clears AT&T spectrum transfer to T-Mobile

The US Federal Communications Commission approved the transfer of spectrum licences from AT&T to T-Mobile USA. The spectrum was agreed as part of the break-up fee paid by AT&T when the deal fell through. T-Mobile said the deal provides it with a package of valuable AWS spectrum in 128 cellular market areas, including 12 of the top 20 markets. The frequencies will support its planned roll-out of 4G services over the next year. AT&T abandoned the proposed takeover of T-Mobile last December due to regulatory opposition. In addition to the spectrum, it paid USD 3 billion cash to the company and entered into a domestic roaming agreement with T-Mobile.
