FCC fines Google for impeding StreetView investigation
The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has fined Google USD 25,000 for impeding an investigation into data collection for its StreetView service, reports Reuters. The FCC said that Google had collected personal data without permission and then had deliberately failed to co-operate with the investigation. In an order issued on 13 April, the FCC said that the company refused to identify any employees or produce any e-mails, adding that this sort of misconduct threatened to compromise the FCC's ability to effectively investigate possible violations of FCC rules and the Communications Act. In a statement, Google said that it had supplied all the materials requested by regulators and rejected the FCC's claim that it failed to co-operate.
