FCC launches new USD 14.2 billion Affordable Connectivity Program

The Federal Communications Commission has started the new Affordable Connectivity Program, the USD 14.2 billion successor programme to the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program set up during the coronavirus pandemic. From 1 January, eligible households can apply to receive an up to USD 30 per month discount toward internet services and up to USD 75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to USD 100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than USD 10.010-50 toward the purchase price.

The FCC said the Emergency Broadband Benefit programme helped almost 9 million households during the pandemic.
