FCC links review of AT&T deals with T-Mobile, Qualcomm

The FCC has decided to combine its investigations of AT&T's proposed takeover of T-Mobile USA and the operator's spectrum deal with Qualcomm. The FCC confirmed the move in a letter to AT&T and Qualcomm posted on its website. Consumer and public interest groups had been pushing for the FCC to combine the investigations, as both deals will substantially increase AT&T's spectrum holdings. Qualcomm agreed in December 2010 to sell its 700MHz band frequencies in the US to AT&T for USD 1.925 billion. The spectrum previously used for the Flo mobile TV service would support AT&T's launch of LTE services. The companies had expected to close the transaction in the second half of 2011.
