Finnish telecoms regulator Ficora has declared that it will support 5G-related experimentation and testing by flexibly issuing radio licences for 5G trials. It said it may issue short-term licences with durations ranging from a few days to a few years. Applications should be submitted to radiotaajuudet@ficora.fi.
Ficora said the European Commission has identified the 3.4-3.8 GHz and the 24-27 GHz bands, among others, as 5G pioneer bands in Europe. For regional 5G testing, Ficora will make available bands of up to 100 MHz in the former band until the end of 2018, and up to 1,000 MHz in the latter. It is also possible to receive licences for 5G testing in other frequency bands, it said, without giving any detail.
Frequency needs are considered separately for each case and test environment. If necessary, wider bands may be awarded for indoors testing, for example.
