Fiji has signed an agreement with the nation's three telecommunications providers to allow new players on the telecom market, ABC reports. The deal was actually negotiated in November last year. Under the agreement, the exclusive licence held by government-controlled Amalgamated Telecom Holdings will be removed and new entrants will be allowed within ten to eighteen months. The Telecom Holdings company is the parent for Telecom Fiji, Vodafone and Fintel which have been compensated for the loss of exclusivity. The interim attorney general Aihaz Sayed-Khaiyum told ABC News that the deal basically sets the path for liberalisation of the telecommunications market in Fiji.
