Forrester: “mobile TV successful in 5 years”
Forrester predicts that mobile TV will become popular in five years. Right now, the phones are too expensive and a lot of consumers do not know if they want to watch TV on their mobile handset and if they want to pay for it. Companies offering content, such as TV stations, must think through which images they want to offer via mobile TV, since not all content is appropriate for broadcasting on the mobile phone. Further, it remains to be seen whether users would rather watch ‘live’ television or whether they would like to request for movies via the so called ‘on demand’-model. Mark de Buck, responsible for content at Vodafone and for mobile television in the Vodafone-offer, is certain that mobile TV will become a success in the Netherlands. “We already see people watching TV on their mobile phone. De Buck is referring to the bombing attacks in London. “People suddenly realised that they had CNN on their mobile phone and they used it to watch CNN”. De Buck does go to say that too few people have a suitable phone right now.
