Foxconn to stop iPhone production in Brazil for US - report

Update: 15 June 2017 | 11:31 CET
Foxconn has stopped the assembly of iPads in Brazil and is expected to also stop iPhone production in the country, reports Istoe Dinheiro. In 2011, Foxconn had promised to invest BRL 1 billion and create up to 100,000 jobs. Foxconn sources said that US President Donald Trump's plans to tax imports more in order to encourage local production in the US led Foxconn to change its strategy. In addition, the economic crisis, the political instability and the low productivity of the Brazilian labour force contributed to the decision to halt production.
