France Telecom denies rumoured buyout move for Mobistar
France Telecom has issued a statement to quell speculation that it was planning to buy outstanding shares in its Belgian subsidiary, Mobistar. The French operator told Dow Jones Newswires that "Following the market rumours about a public offer from France Telecom on Mobistar, France Telecom affirms there is no operation in process". France Telecom owns 52.9 percent of Mobistar.

Belgium internet subscribers grow 6% to 3.3 million in 2010

The number of active internet subscribers in Belgium rose to 3.286 million at the end of 2010, according to the ISP Association. The number rose 1.3 percent in the fourth quarter and 5.93 percent over the full year, equal to 183,841 new lines. Of the 2.73 million consumer subscribers, 98.5 percent used broadband. The number of business subscribers fell over the fourth quarter by 0.5 percent, to a total 554,437. While the country added 211,722 broadband connections last year, this was around 91,000 less than

Mobistar stops no-frills brand Simply by Mobistar

Belgian mobile operator Mobistar is scrapping Simply by Mobistar, Walloon technology site Bemobile.be reported. The brand offered only calls and SMS services, with calls at EUR 0.19 per minute and an SMS priced at EUR 0.10. Customers will now be redirected to more expensive rates of Tempo. Tempo is a prepaid service whose rates recently renewed and which charges a connection fee of EUR 0.27 per minute. Customers can get more call minutes, text messages and megabytes with an ugrade of EUR 10.

Mobistar FY exceeds guidance amid strong mobile internet

Belgian mobile operator Mobistar said full year results exceeded expectations despite unfavourable regulation. Consolidated revenues for the year rose 6.2 percent year-on-year to 1.66 billion, including nine months consolidation of Mobistar Enterprise Services, the former KPN Belgium activities. The EBITDA margin for service revenues slid lower to 36.2 percent, from 39.2 percent the year before. Total EBITDA declined 3.2 percent to EUR 548.7 million, while the net profit lifted 1.3 percent to EUR 263.6 mill
