
France Telecom to exit cable sector

France Telecom has told the government that it definitely plans to pull out of the cable business. The company owns 100% of France Telecom Cable, 27% of Noos and 70% of the NC Numericable network. A merger between France Telecom Cable and NC Numericable would form France's largest cabler. At a meeting between the government, France Telecom, Suez and Vivendi Universal, France Telecom and Vivendi agreed to co-ordinate their strategies in the cable sector, according to some sources. The government is keen to facilitate the restructuring of the ailing cable industry. Noos and Liberty Media have held preliminary discussions, according to Dow Jones, news agency.
