German regional association Gigabitregion FrankfurtRheinMain has signed framework agreements with three fibre network operators to deploy FTTP to all business locations and half of the households in the region by 2025. The three operators are Deutsche Glasfaser Wholesale, Deutsche Giganetz and Telekom Deutschland. The agreement also promises to have 90 percent coverage of all households in the region by the end of 2030. In total up to 1.56 million households and around 640 business parks should be connected.
Under the framework agreement, the operators and municipalities in the region will coordinate the roll-out of fibre networks all using the same conditions to ensure cost synergies. The state of Hesse supports the plans with EUR 270 million in subsidies up to 2024. These are mainly to be used to expand fibre coverage to underserved, rural areas.
