Free offers femtocells to Freebox Revolution customers

French broadband and mobile operator Free has started providing femtocells to users of its Freebox Revolution advanced home gateway, free of charge, to improve communication quality on mobiles when inside the home. Freebox Revolution customers can order one from the subscriber account area of the website and pay only a EUR 10 delivery fee. Free mobile customers will be able to connect automatically to the internet whenever they are within range of a Freebox Revolution equipped with a femtocell. The operator writes that this first generation Femto Freebox will be developed in the future to provide new services and meet new demands from users. SFR pioneered the use of femtocells in France, Bouygues Telecom followed suit, and Orange recently started providing them to customers.
