Freeview launches new ad campaign as Freeview Play users reach 10 million

UK DTT platform Freeview confirmed that more than 10 million homes are now using the Freeview Play on-demand platform.

Sales of Freeview Play devices have reached over 14 million to date. The platform offers users access to more than 80 live TV channels, and on 10 on-demand players with over 30,000 hours of content.

Freeview is also launching a new TV advertising campaign to promote its wide range of free content. Launching on 26 October, the campaign includes a 60-second ad on live TV, supported by shorter versions on BVoD (ITV Hub, All 4) and VoD (Facebook, YouTube) to reach younger viewers.

The ad shows two alien characters, the Queen and her assistant Colin, who pick up some Freeview TV channels on their spaceship as they prepare to invade earth. They become enthralled by the delights of 'human TV' and decide to abandon the invasion, settling down to watch TV with some 'Good Biscuits' instead. Freeview plans to adopt a long-term strategy across its social media channels to build the characters and include them with regularly updated content for followers.
