French mobile revenues drop 2.2% to EUR 5.79 bln in Q1
French mobile service revenues totaled EUR 5.79 billion in Q1 2011, a 2.2 percent drop compared to Q4 2010, according to Telecompaper's second report on the French mobile industry. The increase in non-voice revenues could not make up for the loss in voice revenues due to lower termination rates and competition. In Q1 Orange's revenue declined by 0.9 percent compared to the previous quarter, and Bouygues' revenues went down by 1.2 percent, while SFR saw the biggest drop in quarterly revenues, losing 4.5 percent. The number of mobile SIMs (excluding MVNOs) fell by 1.7 percent to a total of 58.9 million lines at the end of March 2011. Market penetration in the first quarter stood at 93.2 percent. Orange remains the market leader with a 45.3 percent share of the total number of lines. SFR was in second place with a 35.7 percent share, followed by Bouygues with a 19.0 percent share. Telecompaper expects French mobile revenues to show a small decrease of 1-2 percent over the full year 2011.
