Telecom regulator Arcep has authorised the French department of Isere to use the 3.5 GHz band for a fixed wireless network across under-served areas. Valid until 24 July 2026, the spectrum licence will enable local authorities to deploy an open-access infrastructure covering around 300 rural municipalities. The ISPs present on this network will have to provide an uncapped broadband service with no data limits and download speeds of at least 30 Mbps.
