Fujitsu buys out Toshiba stake in handset venture
Fujitsu announced the acquisition of Toshiba's 19.9 percent stake in their mobile handset joint venture Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications. The venture makes and sells mobile phones for Japanese operator KDDI and other carriers. As a result of the takeover, the company becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujitsu and is renamed Fujitsu Mobile Communications Limited. The company employs about 300 people and has capital of JPY 450 million. Fujitsu and Toshiba combined their mobile phone businesses in late 2010, with Fujitsu taking an 80.1 percent stake in the venture.

Fujitsu reported results for the fiscal year to March 2012 ahead of its earlier projections and forecast a return to growth in the current fiscal year. Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications has launched the Arrows Z ISW11F smartphone in Japan. The phone features a 4.3-inch HD display, 1.2GHz dual-core CPU and 13.1 megapixel camera. Fujitsu cuts FY sales outlook on stronger yen

Fujitsu reported second-quarter sales up 0.6 percent from a year earlier to JPY 1.106 trillion. In its home market Japan, sales rose by 1.4 percent, supported by the acquisition of Toshiba's mobile phone business and sales of mobile base stations. KDDI to sell Windows 7.5 phone from September

Japanese mobile operator KDDI will sell the Windows Phone IS12T made by Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications from September. The handset will run on Windows Phone 7.5 and is a water- and dust-proof smartphone. The device also comes with a 13.2-megapixel camera and 32 GB of internal memory.
