
Fujitsu buys out Toshiba stake in handset venture

Fujitsu announced the acquisition of Toshiba's 19.9 percent stake in their mobile handset joint venture Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications. The venture makes and sells mobile phones for Japanese operator KDDI and other carriers. As a result of the takeover, the company becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujitsu and is renamed Fujitsu Mobile Communications Limited. The company employs about 300 people and has capital of JPY 450 million. Fujitsu and Toshiba combined their mobile phone businesses in late 2010, with Fujitsu taking an 80.1 percent stake in the venture.
