German mobile revenues drop 4.6% year-on-year - study
The German mobile industry generated EUR 4.74 billion in revenue in the first quarter of 2011, down by 0.6 percent compared to the same quarter last year and a 4.6 percent increase compared to the fourth quarter of 2010, according to Telecompaper's German Mobile Operators Q1 2011 report. The decrease is mainly caused by a decrease of voice revenues by EUR 334 million during the first quarter to end March with EUR 2.98 billion, which could not be off-set by an increase in non-voice revenues of EUIR 107 million to EUR 1.76 billion. The large decrease of voice revenues is mainly caused by the decision of German regulator BNA to lower the MTA fees per 1 December 2010. Telekom Deutschland is the largest mobile operator with regards to revenues with a market share of 35.6 percent, followed by Vodafone Germany with 34.4 percent, E-Plus with 15.5 percent and O2 Germany with 14.5 percent. The number of active Sims grew by 1.3 percent year-on-year to 109.6 million with Vodafone Germany having a 33.5 percent market share followed by Telekom Deutschland with 31.5 percent, E-Plus with 19.1 percent and O2 Germany with 15.8 percent. Telekom Deutschland was the only operator to lose market share.
