Gigaset to relocate smartphone manufacturing to Germany
Smartphone and DECT manufacturer Gigaset will resume manufacturing smartphones in Germany beginning in March, the manufacturer announced during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona according to Inside-Handy.de. The company said it will assemble prefabricated components from suppliers at its factory in Bocholt, where Gigaset’s DECT devices are likewise produced. Gigaset is not currently planning to hire any additional employees for the production launch, it said.

The relocation of its manufacturing processes makes Gigaset the only manufacturer in the German mobile market able to offer products with the seal “Made in Germany”, said Inside Handy. Gigaset said during that the production costs in Germany are comparable to those in China given that logistics costs will fall by manufacturing smartphones in Europe. The company said it will release more details on the relocation of its production to Germany in late March when its new smartphones are unveiled.
