Global Crossing expands IP network in Latin America
Global Crossing has expanded its ability to address growing demand for bandwidth-intensive applications and converged IP services in Latin America. Global Crossing is supplementing the core functionality of its MPLS-network backbone with Supercore routing platforms. In addition to Supercore routers already installed in St. Croix, USVI and Fort Amador, the company has installed these routers in Buenos Aires, Santiago and Sao Paulo. This triples PoP-to-PoP core capacity and enables OC192 (10 Gbps SONET) connections on the company's South American Crossing undersea fibre-optic cable system. Immediate benefits to customers include a core architecture that can transport high capacity IP traffic, handle the rising demand for 10 Gbps Ethernet services and expand beyond 10 Gbps capacity without the delays caused by forklift upgrades.
