Global semiconductor sales to rise 5.4% in 2015 - study

Worldwide semiconductor revenues are set to reach USD 358 billion in 2015, a 5.4 percent increase from 2014, thanks to strong growth in smartphones, DRAM and NAND flash in ultramobiles and solid-state drives (SSDs), according to a report from Gartner. The latest prediction has been revised downwards from the previous quarter's forecast of a 5.8 percent annual growth, as DRAM returns to more traditional price reductions and the industry burns off excess holiday inventory, said Gartner. DRAM was the fastest-growing device type in 2014 with 31.7 percent revenue growth due to short supply.
