Global wearable sales to hit 126 mln by 2019 - study
Global sales of smart wearable devices, including smart watches and fitness trackers, are set to soar from 45.7 million units in 2015 to 126.1 million units in 2019, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 45.1 percent. The latest figures from International Data Corporation (IDC) forecast a near tripling of sales this year from the 19.6 million units shipped in 2014 thanks to a combination of new vendors, new devices and greater consumer awareness. The launch of devices capable of running third-party applications, such as Apple Watch, Motorola's Moto 360 and Samsung's Gear watches, is set to propel sales of smart wearables to 25.7 million units in 2015, up some 510.9 percent from the 4.2 million units shipped in 2014. Basic wearables, or devices that don't run third party applications will experience a far less spectacular 30.0 percent year-on-year growth from 15.4 million units to 20.0 million units in 2015, predicted IDC.
