Google acquires Plink for visual search service
Google has acquired the UK-based company Plink, a developer of an art recognition application for Android mobile phones. The Plink team will support work on the Google Goggles visual search service, which allows Android users to search for more information online about an object photographed with the their mobile phone. The plink Art application focuses on indetifying works of art. The application will remain available on the Android Market, but will not be updated further. Plink Art was launched four months ago and attracted 50,000 users in its first four weeks.
