
Google said the service is designed to reduce cost and complexity, enhance security and limit the data fragmentation often present in major IoT deployments. Additional features such as automatic firmware updates and OS security are offered for devices running Android Things. Google also released separately the fourth developer preview of Android Things.
The IoT Core service is initially available in a private beta, with hardware partners Actions Semiconductor, Allwinner Technology, ARM, Marvell, Microchip, Intel, Mongoose OS, NXP, Realtek, Sierra Wireless and SOTEC.
