Google drops Nexus One sales online, to expand retail

Google is dropping online sales of its Nexus One mobile phone and expanding the Android phone's presence in retail outlets. While adoption of the Nexus One has exceeded expectations, Google admitted that it own web store remains "a niche channel for early adopters", and most customers want a "hands-on experience before buying a phone" and a wide range of service plans. As a result, the web store will become a window for all Android phones, and Google will expand the Nexus One's retail distribution around the world. As the handset launches in more countries, Google said it plans to follow the same distribution model adopted in Europe, where it's working with partners to offer the Nexus One to consumers through existing retail channels. Online sales will stop once the device is available in an increased number of stores.
