Google launches smart backpacks with Samsonite

Google has collaborated with Samsonite on two new backpacks equipped with the Jacquard smart touch system. With the system, the left strap of the backpack can unlock desired capabilities, customised before using the Jacquard app. For example, touching the strap in a certain way could deliver call and text notifications, trigger a selfie, control the wearer’s music or ask Google Assistant for the latest news. For an added level of interaction, a LED light on the left strap will light up according to the alerts set. 

Google launched a smart jacket with Levi Strauss in 2017 and then more affordable versions in 2019. The company added that it has also worked on smart items with Saint Laurent, Adidas and EA. The latest Konnect-I Backpack with Samsonites costs USD 199 for the Slim version and USD 219 for the Standard version.

Google has followed the launch of its new 5G Pixel smartphones and Nest Audio smart speaker by announcing an upgrade of its Google Wifi mesh router. First unveiled back in 2016, the refreshed device comes with dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, WPA3 encryption support, a quad-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of eMMC storage plus two Ethernet ports. It now covers up to 1,500 square feet per mesh point and is made out of partially recycled plastic.
