Google releases Google Maps for iOS
Google has released a Google Maps app for iOS as well as an SDK and URL scheme to help developers use Google maps into their apps. The move follows Apple's decision to replace Google on the latest version of iOS, using its own app based on mapping data from TomTom. The new Google Maps for iOS features tilting and rotating of 2D and 3D views, a search box and expandable information sheet for points of interest, turn-by-turn navigation, live traffic conditions and information on public transportation. The new app works with the iPhone and fourth-generation iPod Touch running iOS 5.1 and higher. It is available at the Apple App Store in over 40 countries and 29 languages, although some of the features are not available in all of the countries.
