The Nexus 5 comes with a full HD IPS display with new in-cell touch technology for faster recognition and better outdoor visibility and offers a choice of 16GB or 32GB memory. It features the LG Innotek optical image stabilizer technology first introduced in the LG G2, with an 8MP camera and improved HDR+ mode. The smartphone runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and supports LTE.
To support smartphones with less memory than the Nexus 5's 2 GB, Google said it has reduced the memory footprint of the latest version of Android, as well as its other services such as Chrome and YouTube. Unnecessary background services were removed and the memory consumption of features used often was reduced, allowing Android to run "comfortably" on a phone with 512MB of RAM, Google said.
Other new features of the KitKat releases include a new Phone app with enhanced contacts search across apps and Caller ID by Google to match incoming phone numbers to a business even if that number isn’t stored in the contact list. The new Google Hangouts app with integrated SMS is also included, as well as increased integration of Google Now and voice commands.
