GVT reaches 2 million broadband customers
Brazilian operator GVT announced it has reached the milestone of 2 million fixed broadband customers in August. GVT did not provide an annual comparison for the data, but said that the first million customers for the high-speed broadband service was achieved in October 2010. The operator attributed the growth in the broadband subscriber base to its quality of service, attractive price and accelerated geographic expansion. Earlier this week, GVT announced it was now operating in 135 cities throughout Brazil.

GVT penalised for failing to meet contracted speed

Brazilian broadband operator GVT has been ordered by a judge in Brasilia to pay 10 percent of its 2011 net profit as a punishment for failing to provide the speed agreed in its contracts. The company was accused of offering much more advantageous services than it could fulfil, according to the website Ultima Instancia. GVT invests BRL 19 million to arrive in Dourados

Brazilian telecommunications operator GVT has invested BRL 19 million to extend its fixed telephony, pay-TV and broadband services to the city of Dourados, in the state of Mato Grosso du Sul. The operator is already selling 100 Mbps broadband internet connections and currently covers 48 percent of the urban area of Dourados, or a total of 61 districts. DirecTV may bid for GVT – report

US satellite TV provider DirecTV could submit a bid for Brazilian broadband operator GVT. Citing two unnamed sources, Bloomberg said that DirecTV is only one of the possible bidders, as GVT owner Vivendi is preparing a list of potential buyers who will be given access to financial information. GVT ended June 2012 with 300,000 pay-TV subscribers and targets adding another 100,000 by the end of the year. DirecTV is already active in Latin America and sees the region as a new growth market.

GVT sees revenue growth slowing

Brazilian broadband operator GVT reported first-half 2012 revenues of BRL 2.05 billion, up 31.4 percent from a year earlier. EBITDA rose 21.4 percent to EUR 346 million, while the EBITDA margin fell to 40.6 percent from 41.8 percent. GVT targets 400,000 TV customers in 2012

Brazilian operator GVT is targeting over 400,000 customers for its IPTV service GVT TV this year and 1 million clients by the end of next year. According to director of pay-TV at GVT, Dante Compagno Neto, since January of this year, the operator had added 230,000 customers for the pay-TV service, which is limited to the 130 cities where it also provides a broadband service.
