Halbherr to step down as CEO of Nokia's Here 
Nokia announced that Michael Halbherr has decided to step down as CEO of Here and as a member of the Nokia Group leadership team, effective 1 September, in order to pursue his own entrepreneurial interests outside the company. Cliff Fox, currently senior vice president, Core Map Group, at Here, will assume the position of acting head of Here, effective 1 September. A search for a permanent leader of Here will start immediately inside and outside the organisation.

Nokia launches Here map app for all Android devices

Nokia's navigation and mapping business Here has launched its free mobile app to all Android users. The app was initially distributed for Samsung Galaxy smartphones alone but a post on Nokia's Here blog announces that a beta has been made available for all Android smartphones, preferably those running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) or above with at least 1 GB of RAM. Nokia to offer free mobile map apps for consumers

Nokia's mapping business Here plans to release its own free mobile apps to consumers. The apps will be available by the end of the year for Android and iOS devices, Nokia executive Sean Fernback said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. Michael Halbherr, CEO van Nokia's digitale kaartendienst HERE, is vertrokken vanwege een meningsverschil met Nokia's CEO Rajeev Suri over de koers van de divisie. Volgens Bloomberg, dat zich baseert op bronnen die bekend zijn met de kwestie, zou er binnen Nokia de discussie leven of HERE zich alleen zou moeten richten op automotive en enterprise, of dat de dienst zich meer zou moeten profileren op de consumentenmarkt. Nokia acquires Desti to improve Here maps search

Nokia has acquired Desti to support its location services unit Here. The Desti app uses voice controls and contextual data to help users create intelligent maps and find relevant services nearby, based on their preferences rather than just key words. The company is a spin-off of SRI International, the same research institute that helped form Siri and Nuance Communications. Nokia will incorporate the Desti technology in the Here maps service.
