HD Plus introduces new streaming service HD+ IP in Germany

SES's German satellite TV platform HD Plus said it is introducing the new streaming offering HD+ IP. The offering includes programs of over 50 channels in HD such as RTL HD, ProSieben HD and the public broadcasters ARD and ZDF. It also offers access to media libraries and other services through the HD+ TV-App.

Viewers can use a search function to find content across live TV, the media libraries and the TV preview function. The service also offers a TV guide (EPG), TV tips and a watch list for personal planning of programs to watch.

HD+ IP will initially be available on Panasonic TVs from the JXW854 series via an automatic software update planned to start in December. While households with satellite reception should continue to receive HD+ via the Astra satellite platform, the company expects the new service will help it reach the 20 million homes without a satellite receiver. 

HD+ IP can be tested free of charge for one month. Customers have then the option of a monthly subscription for EUR 6 per month or they can purchase a 12-month subscription using a prepaid voucher for EUR 75, available in shops or on the HD+ web shop. HD+ subscribers can also book HD+ ToGo and enjoy HD+ on on smartphones and tablets.

The new range of TV sets will go on sale at the end of March and there is a free six-month trial of HD+ with no requirement to register.

HD Plus lets customers extend susbcription in stores

SES's German satellite TV platform HD Plus will for the first time let customers extend their subscription in stores, from September at retailers supporting Epay. The extension costs EUR 65 for the first 12 months, a discount of EUR 10 on the normal price, and is then EUR 6 per month after one year.

ProSiebenSat.1 confirms FY outlook after 2% revenue growth in Q1

German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 has conformed the outlook for the fiscal year 2022 despite the negative impact of the war in Ukraine. The company targets revenues of around EUR 4.6 billion and adjusted EBITDA of EUR 840 million, mainly supported by the entertainment segment and therefore depending on the development of the advertising market. It continues to expect adjusted net income for the full-year to be at or slightly above the previous year's level of EUR 362 million.

The channel continues to be available free-to-air in standard definition (SD) and in high definition (HD) on HD+, SES's German media platform.

Netflix most popular streaming service in Germany - study

Netflix is the most popular streaming service in Germany, with 32 percent of people using it at least once a week, according to a study conducted by the public broadcasters ARD and ZDF. Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ rank second and third respectively, with 18 and 8 percent of people watching at least once a week. The ARD and ZDF media libraries are used by 21 percent of people at least once a week.

Germany's Sport1 channel said it has extended its partnership with the satellite operator SES Astra and its subsidiary HD Plus to distribute its free TV channels. Under the new agreement, Sport1 has secured long-term transponder capacities via the satellite Astra at 19.2 degrees East, enabling viewers to continue receiving Sport1 channels on the frequency 12,480 MHz in SD free of charge. Sport1 output will air in high definition on HD Plus on the frequency 10,803 MHz.

HD Plus offers refund promo to win over Diveo customers

HD Plus, a subsidiary of satellite provider SES and the operator of an HD+ satellite platform, is offering a refund of EUR 39.50 to customers who own a Diveo module or a Diveo set-top-box. Diveo ended its service in Germany on 30 November. Now, HD Plus is offering customers the possibility of buying an HD module for EUR 79, but will pay back EUR 39.50. The promotion will run until 15 December.
