HMD Global launches Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone in Indian market

HMD Global has unveiled two new Nokia smartphones, the 6.1 Plus and 5.1 Plus, at an event in Delhi. Earlier launched as the X5 and X6 for the Chinese market, the new phones will be available exclusively on Flipkart and Nokia's website to start in India. 

The 6.1 Plus comes with premium features such as a Full HD+ screen with 19:9 display and top notch and a 2.5D curved glass back. The 5.8-inch screen boasts a 93 percent surface ratio, and the dual rear camera offers HDR and a range of AI features to optimise photos, as well as filters and stickers. 

The 6.1 Plus also has a 16-megapixel front camera and supports microSD cards up to 400 GB. It runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chip, 4 GB RAM and up to 64 GB storage, plus Android One 8.1. It's available in black for INR 15,999 on the Nokia website or Flipkart.

The 5.1 Plus offers a similar design, with 5.86-inch HD+ display and curved glass back. It runs only 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage, with a MediaTek Helio chipset, and has cameras with fewer megapixels, at 12/5 on the back and 8 on the front. Pricing details have not yet been released for the Android One device, which is expected to go on sale in September.

HMD Global announced that the Nokia 3310 3G, Nokia 1, Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6.1 are available to buy in Canada. Nokia 5.1 to launch in Portugal on 23 August

HMD Global will start marketing the new Nokia 5.1 smartphone in Portugal from 23 August, reports Tek. Announced at an event in India, the new smartphone is also listed on a number of other Nokia websites in Europe, such as Austria, Greece, Poland and Russia.

Airtel starts bonus promo for customers who upgrade to 4G smartphone

Indian operator Bharti Airtel has launched a campaign for its 2G/3G mobile device users. Airtel customers on 2G/3G mobile devices will be eligible for 30 GB data free data when they upgrade to a 4G smartphone. Prepaid customers will receive 1 GB data every day for 30 days over and above any pack they charge with. Postpaid customers will get bonus 30 GB data (with rollover) in their first bill cycle over and above their plan benefits.

Indian mobile operator Bharti Airtel and Nokia brand licence owner HMD Global have launched a 4G smartphone offering as part of the Airtel's Mera Pehla Smartphone initiative. Under this campaign, Airtel will offer the Nokia 3 and Nokia 2 smartphones with a cashback offer of INR 2,000. Both 4G smartphones will come bundled with a special Airtel recharge pack of INR 169 offering 1GB for 4G data traffic per day and unlimited local and STD calls.
