De GSMA heeft de HTC Hero smartphone uitgeroepen tot beste mobiele telefoon bij de Global Mobile Awards. De GSMA Chairman's Award ging naar de voormalige CEO van Ericsson, Carl-Henric Svanberg, terwijl medeoprichter en CEO van Apple Steve Jobs werd gekozen tot 'Mobile Industry Personality of the Year as Voted for by the Media'. Research in Motion won in de categorie Best Mobile Enterprise Product or Service voor de BlackBerry Enterprise Server v5.0. Andere winnaars in hun categorie waren:
