HTC partners Valve for virtual reality headset

HTC has partnered with the company Valve to present its own virtual reality headset at Mobile World Congress. The HTC Vive Developer Edition will launch this spring, and a consumer edition will be available by the end of 2015.

Vive combines Valve’s Steam VR tracking and input technologies with HTC’s mobile design and engineering. Vive offers an immersive 360-degree, full-room experience with tracked controllers, so the user can get get up, walk around and explore the virtual space, inspecting objects from every angle and interacting with the surroundings. The headset features high-quality graphics and 90 frames per second video. HTC is also introducing wireless VR controllers to help users make the most of the VR experience.

HTC is working wih game developers including Vertigo Games, Bossa, Barry –Fireproof, Dovetail Games, Wemo Labs, Google, Steel Wool Games and Owlchemy to develop content for the headset. HTC also wants to extend its applications beyond games and has partnered Google, HBO, Lionsgate and the National Palace Museum in Taiwan to develop other content.
