HTC Q2 profit falls 83%
HTC announced revenues of TWD 70.7 billion for the second quarter, down 22 percent from a year earlier and in line with its outlook for around TWD 70 billion. The net profit fell to TWD 1.25 billion, down 83 percent year-on-year. The figures were still up strongly from a difficult first quarter, when sales were at TWD 42.8 billion and profit was just TWD 0.09 billion. The smartphone maker managed to slow the annual drop in sales to 3.4 percent in May after it started mass distribution of its new HTC One phone. However, it saw another difficult month in June, when revenues dropped 26.4 percent from a year earlier to TWD 22.1 billion. HTC will release more detailed results and an outlook for Q3 at a later date.
