Huawei, LG U+ conduct first trial of live UHD IPTV over 5G FWA

South Korean operator LG U+ and Huawei have announced the successful completion of the world's first trial of live ultra-high-definition (UHD) IPTV over a 5G FWA (fixed-wireless access) network. The FWA demo used Huawei’s end-to-end 5G products, including 5G gNodeB, NG Core and 5G CPE. Using a millimeter wave 28GHz band, the video terminal accessed the 5G network, allowing an audience to fluently watch UHD television programmes. In the capacity test, Huawei’s 5G CPE demonstrated a peak capacity of more than 2Gbps, larger than the current rate of FTTx.

The partners said the pre-commercial trial verified the 5G FWA service research results of both sides, as well as FWA service scenarios in advance. It also laid a foundation for the commercial launch of 5G on the LG U+ network.
