Huawei Marine Networks to build submarine cable linking Maldives to Sri Lanka

Huawei Marine Networks (HMN) has confirmed a contract to handle a new submarine cable project, the Maldives Sri Lanka Cable system (MSC). The system will make possible a direct link between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, increasing regional capacity and network diversity.

MSC is a four fibre pair system, equipped with HMN's high-output titanium housing repeaters to achieve span length over 130km. It will be ready for service by year-end 2020 after a delivery period of less than 11 months.

The consortium of investors includes Ooredoo Maldives, Dhivehi Raajjeyge Gulhun (Dhiraagu) and Dialog Axiata.

Huawei Marine Networks (HMN) has announced the start of the Senegal Horn of Africa Regional Express (SHARE) Cable. This will be the first high-capacity direct link from the African continent to Cape Verde and is due for completion in Q1 2021.The SHARE system is about 720 km long with a design capacity of 16Tbps and will connect Dakar in Senegal with Praia in Cape Verde.

Dhiraagu to invest USD 8.4 mln in Maldives Sri Lanka Cable project

Maldives operator Dhiraagu has joined a multi-party agreement to connect the Maldives to Sri Lanka through a second fiber optic submarine cable. The Maldives Sri Lanka Cable project selected Huawei for the infrastructure deployment. Dhiraagu plans to invest USD 8.4 million in this project. Dhiraagu will own 45 percent of the Maldives Sri Lanka Cable. The other parties to the system are Dialog Axiata and Ooredoo Maldives.
