Hulu gets new CEO from Fox

Hulu has announced the resignation of CEO Mike Hopkins, who will be going on to become chairman of Sony Picture Television (Sony TV). Hopkins will be succeeded by Randy Freer, who currently serves on the Hulu board. Freer has been president and COO of Fox Networks since 2013. He will be based at Hulu headquarters in Los Angeles. His appointment became effective on 23 October.

Hopkins, who was CEO at Hulu since 2013, will start in late November and report to new Sony Pictures Entertainment chief Tony Vinciquerra. The two worked together previously at Fox.

Sony said that the appointment of Hopkins represents a structural change at the company. Moving forward, the heads of Sony TV's domestic and international television products, distribution, advertiser sales and research, marketing and Sony Picture Worldwide Networks will now report to Hopkins.
