Iliad loses chief network officer and deputy CEO Rani Assaf, announces promotions

Iliad announced two promotions within its management team, following the resignation of Rani Assaf from his roles as chief network officer and deputy CEO. One of the creators of the first Freebox, Assaf will leave the group at the end of June to devote his time to new projects. Alexandre Cassen will join the executive committee as chief network officer, while Nicolas Jaeger will replace Assaf as deputy CEO, a position also held by Antoine Levavasseur. 

Jaeger has been Iliad’s CFO (Chief Financial Officer) since 2018. Alongside this position, he serves as a member of the boards of directors of TRM, OnTower France, IFT and Polish operator Play.

Cassen joined Iliad in 2004 as senior software architect from broadcaster Canal Plus. He was promoted in 2010 to lead a number of R&D projects, helping to shape Free Mobile’s operations and playing a key role in the launch of iliad Italia.

Iliad deputy CEO passes away

Iliad has announced the death of Nicolas Jaeger, who joined the telecom group in 2007. Jaeger was promoted to the position of chief financial officer in 2018 and deputy CEO in 2021. He also had a seat on the board of a number of companies, including Iliad subsidiary Play. Paying tribute, Iliad described Jaeger as one of the main architects behind the group's development.

Digicel-Iliad network sharing deal gets regulatory clearance

France's telecom authority said that it completed an in-depth investigation into the amended contract agreed in December by Digicel and Iliad's subsidiary Free Caraibe, concluding that no regulatory intervention is necessary at this stage. The two partners announced the creation of joint venture company Madiacom in mid-2020, which will operate a shared radio access network (RAN) in the overseas territories of Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint-Barthelemy, Saint-Martin and French Guiana.

Iliad's Free appoints Thomas Vimare as head of design

Product and web designer Thomas Vimare announced on Twitter that he has joined Iliad subsidiary Free as head of design. He was previously lead designer at French start-up Powder. Among his previous projects, Vimare worked on the launch of the 'Free Ligue 1 Uber Eats' service.

Iliad acquires 12% of Italian retailer Unieuro

French telecommunications group Iliad said it has become the leading shareholder in Italian consumer electronics and household appliances chain Unieuro after acquiring a 12 percent stake for an undisclosed sum.
