Iliad signs EUR 200 mln loan agreement with EIB
French telecom group Iliad, the parent company of operator Free, has signed a EUR 200 million loan agreement with the European Investment Bank to support the rollout of Free's fibre and ADSL2+ networks. Some 65 percent of the funds will be earmarked for the deployment of FTTH. There will be a particular focus on less densely populated areas of France under a cofinancing agreement signed with France Telecom-Orange in July 2011 designed to reach 60 towns and villages. The agreement follows a first EUR 150 million loan signed by Iliad and the EIB in 2010.

Iliad applies for EIB support for FTTH investment

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is assessing the possibility of investing EUR 200 million in Iliad's FTTH deployment programme. The bank said the amount is part of a EUR 755 million plan to extend the coverage of Iliad's FTTH network in France, targeting over 5 million homes in densely populated areas (so-called black areas) and over 8 million in areas with a medium population density (grey areas). The project covers the roll-out of the fibre network and the related investment in backbone infrastructure.

Iliad net profit down 26% to EUR 186.5 million in 2012

French telecom group Iliad reported a net profit down 25.9 percent to EUR 186.5 million in 2012, compared with EUR 251.8 million in 2011. The parent company of ISP Free and Free Mobile reported EBITDA up 10.6 percent to EUR 921.4 million, as a strong performance from the landline business more than offset a negative contribution from mobile, still in a start-up phase. Haute Savoie applies for EUR 50 mln EIB loan for fibre

The French county of Haute Savoie has applied for a EUR 50 million loan from the European Investment Bank for Fttx network deployments. The money sought would cover investment for the first three years of the project, estimated to cost a total of EUR 106 million. In line with EU legislation and France's national broadband programme, the bank will require tenders to be published in the EU's official gazette. The project's status is currently under appraisal.

Iliad grows revenues 39%, Free Mobile signs 3.6 mln users

French telecom group Iliad reported EUR 1.44 billion in first half revenues, up 39 percent on EUR 1.04 billion in the first half of 2011. Its landline business, comprising Free and Alice France, saw sales rise by 9 percent to EUR 1.13 billion, while Free Mobile, launched in January, brought in EUR 320 million. EIB to boost broadband funding

The European Commission has outlined plans to boost investment in broadband services and work towards the targets in the EU's Digital Agenda adopted earlier this year.
