Incoming CEO Ibarra starts work at KPN as adviser

Maximo Ibarra has started work at KPN, first as adviser before taking over as CEO from mid-April. As announced earlier, he will replace Eelco Blok as CEO after the Dutch operator's AGM on 18 April. Until then, he will work with the management to ensure a smooth transition. 

A former Wind CEO, Ibarra (48) was appointed last October by the supervisory board and will also serve as chairman of the management board. Blok is stepping down after 12 years on the board and two terms as CEO.

KPN's new CEO Maximo Ibarra is changing the Dutch operator's management structure, adding an executive committee in addition to the management board. As part of the changes, chief commercial officer Frank van der Post is leaving the company and will be replaced with a new chief consumer officer, Jean-Pascal Van Overbeke, and a chief business officer.

Ibarra starts first day as KPN CEO

Maximo Ibarra succeeded Eelco Blok as CEO of KPN on 18 April, immediately after the end of the company's General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM). The supervisory board announced the appointment in October 2017; shareholders were informed during an extraordinary shareholders meeting in December. The supervisory board also reappointed Jan Kees de Jager as member (CFO) of the KPN's board of directors.

KPN Q4 results, outlook meet expectations

KPN reported fourth-quarter results in line with expectations. Revenues at the Dutch operator fell 6.3 percent to EUR 1.614 billion, equal to a 5.3 percent decline on an underlying basis, and adjusted EBITDA was down 1.7 percent to EUR 596 million. This improved the margin to 36.9 percent from 35.2 a year ago.

Met ingang van vandaag, 15 januari, is Maximo Ibarra als adviseur in dienst van KPN. Vanaf medio april volgt Ibarra Eelco Blok op als CEO en voorzitter van de Raad van Bestuur van KPN. De komende drie maanden wordt gewerkt aan een soepele overgang van de wisseling van de CEO.

KPN's outgoing CEO Eelco Blok will receive severance of EUR 850,000, it emerged at the Dutch operator's extraordinary shareholders meeting. The meeting was held to inform shareholders about the new CEO Maximo Ibarra, who will officially take over after the AGM next April. According to a report from RTL Z, Blok's departure was not entirely voluntary.

Dutch operator KPN has rejected speculation that it may pursue an international merger or acquisition under its new CEO. In a statement, the company said its M&A strategy "is focused on small in-country acquisitions and it has no plans to make international acquisitions".

KPN has named Maximo Ibarra the successor to its CEO Eelco Blok. The proposal from the supervisory board still needs to be approved at an EGM.
