
Altera, based in California, is one of the two largest makers of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), which can be configured by customers for various tasks after they are manufactured. FPGAs are widely used in carrier networks, computer-networking equipment, cars and other products. Altera's revenue increased 12 percent in 2014 to USD 1.93 billion. In 2013, Intel agreed to offer its most advanced production process to Altera.
