Intel in advanced talks to acquire Altera - report
Intel is in advanced negotiations to buy Altera, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. The move would represent Intel's biggest-ever acquisition. Altera closed 27 March with a valuation of USD 13.4 billion. 

Altera, based in California, is one of the two largest makers of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), which can be configured by customers for various tasks after they are manufactured. FPGAs are widely used in carrier networks, computer-networking equipment, cars and other products. Altera's revenue increased 12 percent in 2014 to USD 1.93 billion. In 2013, Intel agreed to offer its most advanced production process to Altera.

Intel reported first-quarter revenue of USD 12.8 billion, unchanged from the year-earlier period and down 13 percent from the previous quarter. Intel drops talks on Altera takeover - report

Intel has stopped its talks with Altera about a potential acquisition, sources familiar with the situation told CNBC. When news of the talks first broke in March, Altera's share price rose by 28 percent. The two companies have not spoken in more than a week, the report said, as neither party could agree on a price. The sources said Intel's offer was in the low USD 50-range per share, and that the talks had taken place over several months. Altera powers videoconferencing system for Avaya

Altera has announced that a new Avaya Scopia videoconferencing system utilises Altera's H.265 video codec platform, which is capable of handling full duplex encoding and decoding on a single FPGA. Altera has announced it is now shipping its second-generation SoC family. Arria 10 SoCs are programmable devices that combine ARM processors with a 20 nm FPGA fabric.
