Italian govt to reveal broadband plan on 07 April

Wednesday 30 March 2016 | 11:11 CET | News
The Italian government will announce the first of the tenders to build a national high-speed broadband network on 07 April, reports Il Sole 24 Ore, citing Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi. The Italian premier made the announcement at the inauguration in Nevada of a new installation belonging to Italian utility giant Enel, which is expected to play a key role in the fibre-optic broadband plan. The tenders will be limited to 7,300 so-called 'white zones' that have been unable to attract private investment, with the subsidies to be distributed by state-owned infrastructure firm Infratel.
